Waistcoat

Description

Purple silk crêpe waistcoat decorated with an embroidered floral motif along the lapels, center front, and waistline. Its back and interior lining are a glazed cotton. George Coale (1819-1887) owned this garment and likely wore it in 1857 at his wedding to Caroline Dorsey, who likely embroidered the waistcoat.
