Surprise Capturing the Star, January 28, 1815

Description

Seascape depicting the privateer schooner "Surprise" of Baltimore, Maryland, capturing the British merchant ship "Star," on January 28, 1815. Two large ships with many sails are seen on calm, clear blue water before a pale, cloudy sky. The British ship on the left of the composition has smoke pouring over the side following the attack.
