Portrait of Prudence Jones Griffith

Description

Daguerreotype portrait of Prudence Jones Griffith (1796-1881), daughter of Charles Jones (1758-1811), an Irish immigrant, and Prudence Hawkins of Rhode Island. In 1814, she married Major Greenbury Griffith (1787-1848), a veteran of the War of 1812. The couple were parents to ten children: Jemima (1814-1872); Prudence Jones (1816-1853), married Henry Woodward Dorsey Waters; Emily (1818-1903), married Henry Woodward Dorsey Waters; Howard (1821-1897), married first Sarah Chiswell and second Angelica Young; Charles Greenbury (1823-1898); Sarah Leah (1826-1891), married George Chiswell; Joseph Thomas (1828-1910), married Jane Rebecca Wilson; Francis Moore (1831-1908), married Elizabeth Dickerson; David Porter (1835-1903), married Margaret Keys; and Greenbury (1838-1897).
