Hippodrome Theatre exterior
Description
A modern photographic print made from a glass plate negative showing the exterior of the Hippodrome Theatre at 12 North Eutaw Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Constructed on the site of the Eutaw House, a luxury hotel that had been badly damaged by a fire, the theater was commissioned by impresarios Marion Scott Pearce and Philip J. Scheck and designed by Thomas W. Lamb (1870-1942). Opening in 1914, the Hippodrome served as the foremost vaudeville house in Baltimore as well as a movie theater. It closed in 1990 but reopened in 2004 after a massive renovation, once again becoming a popular venue in the city for a variety of performing arts events.
