Description

Interior scene of the artist's foyer in Baltimore, Maryland with stairs ascending to the left of the composition with the family's large black cat sitting upon the banister. Two paintings hang on the white wall and a shelf with sculptures is seen to the right. Maril's personal collection of African art served not only as inspiration for himself but as a teaching tool. Maril regularly brought one or more of the sculptures seen here to the painting classes he taught at the University of Maryland.
