Dress
Description
On January 8, 1959, Mary Lawrence Pitcher performed as a New Orleans Maid at the New Orleans Day Ball. For her performance, the fashionable Baltimorean wore this ivory tulle gown by Mollie Stone of New York, who drew direct inspiration from Irish designer Sybil Connolly’s evening dress published in a 1954 Vogue. Stone’s interpretation showcases the phenomenon of haute couture fashions trickling down to ready-to-wear clothing lines seasons later.
