Commodore Joshua Barney

Description

This portrait features Commodore Joshua Barney (1759-1818) of the American Navy who served in both the Revolutionary War and in the War of 1812. Barney is depicted as an older man with a tuft of gray hair wearing his naval uniform consisting of a white stock underneath a black jacket with gold epaulets and buttons with a blue medal near the center. His left hand is tucked into his jacket while his right hand holds a sword at his hip.
