Box

Description

This studded box is recorded in Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte's (1785-1879) 1860 inventory as a "necessaire of wood studded with steel and silk quilt." The quilt is a small rectangle of quilted silk that sits on the bottom of the box and remains with the box today. Elizabeth chose not to bring this box with her to France in 1860 and left it along with many of her table linens in the care of a Mr. White in Baltimore.
