Portrait of Margaret and Daniel Bower Banks

Description

Daguerreotype portrait of Daniel Bower Banks (1796-1875) and his wife, Margaret Sheward Whitelock Banks (1805-1871). Daniel Banks was a Baltimore merchant and manufacturer, and owned the "Chatsworth" estate, west of Baltimore. He married Margaret, daughter of George Whitelock of Wilmington, Delaware, in 1830. The couple were parents to: Mary Catherine (1832-1859), married Samuel Woolston; Sarah (1834-1853); Elizabeth Bower (1836-1856); Andrew (1838-1909), married Rebecca Godwin; Margaret Whitelock (1840-1906); Alice Maud (1842-1871), married Thomas Emory Smith; Ellen (1845-1869); and Anna Woolston (1847-1890).
