Sun Iron Building, corner of Baltimore and South Streets
Description
View of the Baltimore Sun Building, also known as the Sun Iron Building, which once stood at the corner of Baltimore Street and South Street in Baltimore, Maryland. R. C. Hatfield and James Bogardus built and designed the building in 1851 as the first building in the world to incorporate cast-iron columns and beams in the framing. The Baltimore Sun newspaper company occupied the five-story building, which was eventually destroyed by the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904.
